Rockhill Studio // Traverse City Wedding Photographer, Emma + Michael

Many people choose the Traverse City area for their wedding because it's just, well, beautiful. Just about everywhere you turn there's scenic views everywhere.  And Emma and Michael chose one of the prettiest views in the area: the Lake Michigan Overlook at Sleeping Bear Dunes.  If you've never been, it's this massive 500ft sand dune on the shores of Lake Michigan that has unparalleled views, sand for miles, and rolling hills of beach…

Rockhill Studio // Mackinac Island Wedding Feature, Mission Point Wedding

Mackinac Island Destination Wedding Photography Feature

One super special wedding we had the privilege of photographing last summer was Lindsey and Conner's sweet family tying the knot at Mackinac Island's Mission Point Resort.  We blogged this wedding before (if you scroll past entries you'll see it!) and I am SO happy to have this wedding featured on Big Love Small Weddings today!  From their fudge cake to the carriage ride around the pretty spots on the island, this wedding was everything an intimate destination wedding (for them!) could be.  Northern Michigan is so beautiful and Mackinac Island just provided the absolute perfect backdrop for their nautical themed wedding.

Check out the feature post HERE!

Rockhill Studio // Drummond Island Wedding, Bailey + Ty

Bailey and Ty's wedding on Drummond Island this past summer was like a wonderful family party.  Partly because they have ties to Drummond Island so it was like seeing all the family members come back home for a celebration.  And partly because their families and wedding party were SO FUN!  The couple got ready at an intimate little church on the island (and if you've ever been to Drummond Island, it's an amazing spot with beautiful scenery and lots of outdoor adventures...and not a whole lot of population, so everything has that small town charm to it that only added...

Rockhill Studio // Traverse City Wedding Photographer Magazine Feature

Earlier this year while we were getting prepared to photograph Christy and Mike's wedding day, I got a call from the editor of the MiBrew magazine, a publication put on by the Michigan Brewers Guild.  The editor said they were doing a feature on the bride (Christy) and was wondering if I'd be up for using one of my images from the wedding day as their magazine cover.

ABSOLUTELY!

This couple is very enthusiastic about craft beer, and it was fitting that on the wedding day, we went to a local brewery for a quick drink, getting some pictures with the couple and their wedding party.  It made the perfect backdrop for shooting the cover of the magazine!  I was thrilled for this amazing couple and the opportunity to have their big day featured in such an amazing way!!

Much thanks to MiBrew magazine and this couple for the incredible opportunity!!

Rockhill Studio // Upper Peninsula Spring Wedding, Eric and Erica

Eric and Erica's wedding day was a fairytale.  From before the wedding all the way thru the reception, everything was magical.  Erica's family has a beautiful cottage on Twin Lakes in Newberry, Michigan and we even shot their amazing engagement session here and on their property just down the road back in the fall of 2015.  It's Erica's "happy place" and everything that day was perfect.

Rockhill Studio // Why Choose a Wedding Album?

You said "I do", tied the knot, had an incredible wedding day.  The images we captured are beautiful and look amazing in your online gallery.  Now what?  Choosing an album with a wedding package, or adding one on, is something I'm always pleased with when a couple books a package.  Why?  Because it's one thing to display your images online to oooh and aaaah over, but holding them in your hand, printed in a fine art album, is a whole other experience.  It's not just a book.  It's a showstopper.  A family heirloom that your kids and their kids will look over and dream about their own wedding someday.  A reflection of the best day of...

Rockhill Studio // Danielle + Cole, Manistique Michigan Engagement Photographer

Right now it's the month of April.  While the rest of the country is warm, and spring is blooming, we have school cancellations in some of the districts around us because of the snow.  Seriously.  So, on that snowy, cold note, I'm blogging Danielle and Cole's engagement session from February.  It was a cold and snowy day then, too!  Barely above freezing, and a fresh snow fall from the night before (with some still snow/blowing snow) it was a winter wonderland and made for an amazing backdrop.

Rockhill Studio // Teja + Joe, Marquette Michigan Engagement Photographer

Teja contacted me mid-February inquiring about an engagement session with her and her fiance, Joe, and I loved the though of doing their winter engagement session at the Presque Isle in Marquette, one of the places they brought up as a location.  Always a favorite of mine, for sure!  Teja was visiting Joe from Minnesota, and like most sessions where they had a small window for the session so fingers were crossed the weather would cooperate for us.  The morning of the session it was gorgeous.  Sunny, and not a cloud in the sky!  But it was COLD!  On the way to the session my car registered below zero, but thankfully but the start of the session it had warmed up into the 20's.  Still cold, but that sun did feel amazing!!

Rockhill Studio // Tania + Mike, Mackinac Island Engagement Photographer

Tania and Mike's engagement session was in one of my favorite places in Michigan: Mackinac Island.  There's so many amazing spots on the island, so when Tania contacted me inquiring about an engagement session there, I was thrilled!  Since they are not from the area and just taking a weekend for visiting, fingers were crossed for great weather...and it was.  REALLY crazy windy, but overall not bad.  However, Tania was under the weather with a really awful cold (which was diagnosed as pneumonia the next day!) but even with being so sick, she just ROCKED thru it!  I mean, look how amazing she looks in these images?!  I'm just so happy for these two and am so excited for their wedding day this coming September.
