Hi Friends!  Coming up soon (March 12) we are hosting a beginner's photography course as part of MSU Extension program with the Winter Break for Knowledge.  This is perfect for those who have a "fancy" camera and don't understand it or know how to use it.  Do you already have basic camera knowledge?  Not a problem, we will be covering composition and practicing shooting with the techniques learned in class!  Click the picture for more info, or shoot us over a message!

Rockhill Studio // A Hawaiian Vacation

Hi Friends!  We are in the middle of an amazing trip to Hawaii...and are just loving every second of it!  I posted this on our Facebook page just as a PSA to our amazing clients, but wanted to let you know here as well that we are currently on vacation thru February 23. BUT we absolutely have access to our emails while away.  Because of the time difference and days spent sightseeing and exploring, emails may not be returned until later in the evening, but please feel free to contact us to set up your session, or let us know if you do have any questions about our services! We hare having the time of our lives here, but cannot wait for our upcoming sessions with our wonderful bride and grooms/families/seniors!

Rockhill Studio // Lake Superior on Christmas Day

Christmas Day in the Upper Peninsula is typically all things snow.  And cold.  And snow.  Lots of it.  This year is pretty much the opposite with above average temps and not a flake on the ground (see my previous personal blog post about our tree adventure!).  So for a special Christmas adventure, we all piled in the car for a trek up to Lake Superior.  One our most special and favorite places.

Rockhill Studio // A Michigan Christmas Tradition

Every year since before I was born, during the Christmas season my family has a wonderful tradition for picking out our tree.  We never went to the traditional tree farms to pick out the perfect one, or gone to one of the local stores that carries the pre-cut trees.  Growing up in a lumberjack family, you go out in the woods and cut one yourself.  My parent's house is on 40 acres, with the back yard being nothing but swamp and woods.  And it's here where we trek year after year in search of our tree.

This year is a little different.  Usually there's a ton of snow already we have to walk thru and it does make it harder.  It was in the 40's today and not a trace of snow, so we walked out into the woods to find our perfect tree.  And since my phone was dead, an easier walk not having to worry about the snow, and in celebration of being caught up on sessions (save for the ones I shot this weekend), I brought the big camera along to document it!

Side note: we only picked out the tree today.  Tomorrow we chop it!
